Building a Montessori Leadership Community & Support Network

leadership community

Building a community and networking with other Montessori leaders is essential for school directors and administrators to find support. The biggest lesson that we at Nido Marketing learned following the COVID-19 pandemic was the importance of connection and community. We started our weekly Montessori leadership town halls to provide a weekly space for school leaders to come together and discuss various school leadership topics. We've had the opportunity to have several great conversations with thought leaders and administrators throughout the years.

You're Stronger Leaders When You Work Together

Here's why we feel strongly about finding a community of leaders and connecting with them:

  1. Professional Development: Networking with other Montessori leaders provides opportunities for ongoing professional development and learning. By connecting with peers, directors and administrators can gain new insights, share best practices, and stay updated on the latest trends and developments in Montessori education.

  2. Collaborative Problem-Solving: Montessori leaders often face common challenges and obstacles in their roles. By building a community of support, directors and administrators can collaborate with their peers to brainstorm solutions, share resources, and offer guidance and advice. This collaborative approach can help leaders navigate complex issues more effectively and find creative solutions to common problems.

  3. Emotional Support: Leading a Montessori school can be demanding and stressful at times. Leaders have to wear many hats and it can be challenging to always know the right way to go about things. Having a network of fellow Montessori leaders provides emotional support and camaraderie. Directors and administrators can lean on each other for encouragement, empathy, and reassurance during challenging times, fostering a sense of belonging and solidarity within the Montessori community.

  4. Advocacy and Influence: By coming together as a unified voice, Montessori leaders can advocate for the recognition and advancement of Montessori education at local, state, and national levels. Building strong relationships with policymakers, educational organizations, and community stakeholders can amplify the collective voice of Montessori leaders and drive positive change in education policy and practice. We are stronger together, especially when it comes to raising awareness about Montessori.

In-person Events: Face to Face Connection

Nothing beats coming together face-to-face with local leaders that not only understand what it means to be a Montessori leader, but what it means to lead in your local community. Oftentimes, we see other schools and administrators in our area as competition. While that may be true in some cases, they can also offer a great amount of support and resources. Here's why you should consider organizing or attending local school leadership events:

  1. Facilitate Meaningful Connections: In-person events provide opportunities for Montessori leaders to connect on a deeper level, forge genuine relationships, and build trust and rapport with their peers. Face-to-face interactions allow for more meaningful exchanges and connections than online communication alone.

  2. Promote Collaboration and Networking: In-person events create a conducive environment for collaboration, networking, and idea-sharing among Montessori leaders. Directors and administrators can engage in informal conversations, participate in workshops and panel discussions, and exchange contact information for future collaboration and support.

  3. Foster Community and Camaraderie: Sharing meals, attending social events, and participating in group activities create opportunities for bonding and strengthening relationships, fostering a supportive and inclusive Montessori community.

  4. Enhance Learning and Professional Growth: In-person events often feature keynote speakers, workshops, and educational sessions that offer valuable insights and opportunities for professional growth. Montessori leaders can learn from experts in the field, gain new perspectives, and acquire practical skills and strategies to enhance their leadership roles. When we join together, we can learn from one another's different perspectives and questions.
